Learn evidence-based strategies to alleviate pandemic-related stress. \nA Zoom Webinar Hosted by the Canyon Democrats\nThursday\, July 9 at 7:00 p.m.\nPresenter: UCI Assistant Professor Dana Rose Garfin\n \nDr. Dana Rose Garfin is an Assistant Professor in the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing at the University of California\, Irvine. Her research focuses on the way that negative life events and community disasters impact physical and mental health across the lifespan. She also studies how community-based intervention (focusing on mindfulness\, nutrition and yoga) may help alleviate the harmful effects of stress and trauma. Dr. Garfin’s prior work included research on natural disasters\, terrorist attacks\, school shootings\, and public health crises. She is the founder of the Fox Law Firm in Irvine and has practiced law in Orange County for more than 20 years\, advising large and small businesses\, as well as organizations and individuals. \nMelissa is a past president of the California National Women’s Political Caucus and is a strong advocate for increasing the participation of women in government and civic affairs. She is knowledgeable about campaigns for elected community positions\, as well as the manner in which local government agencies function. \nMelissa serves on multiple local and regional professional organizations\, including the Community Energy Partnership\, Library Advisory Board of the O.C. Library System\, the Laguna Canyon Foundation\, the Green Ribbon Environmental Committee\, and the Irvine Community Land Trust. She has also served on the Irvine Community Services Commission\, Orange County Fire Authority Board\, and the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency Commission. \nMelissa lives with her husband\, Dr. Michael Fox\, and their son\, Max\, in the Portola Springs community of Irvine.
