SUMMARY:Census 2020 Virtual Meeting with Sara Pol-Lim
DESCRIPTION:CENSUS 2020:  Time to get your questions answered!!\nThe 2020 Census determines how billions of federal dollars are distributed in California. An undercount could impact funding for our schools\, health services\, childcare\, emergency services and many other programs. \nThe Census also determines the number of California’s Congressional members and Electoral College votes. A complete count means more people in power who truly represent and advocate for our communities. \n  \nLink no longer available. \n(Meeting maximum: 300 people) \n  \nPeople want to know: \nWhat is California doing to work towards a complete and accurate count in the 2020 Census? \nWhat is the California Census Office doing to encourage participation? \nHow is private information protected? \nWho must respond to the Census? \nWhat questions do you have?  Join us on April 16 to get the answers! \n  \nAbout the presenter: \nSara Pol-Lim is a Regional Program Manager for the California Complete Count – Census 2020. She joined the state Census Office in October 2018. Sara brought knowledge of historically undercounted populations\, such as immigrant and refugee communities\, to the State’s Census outreach campaign. A refugee herself\, she understands the fear some California residents have of government. Sara was executive director of the United Cambodian Community (UCC) of Long Beach from 2007 to 2015. She broke the cultural barrier to be the first Cambodian Woman to lead the UCC back to sustainability. In 2018\, Sara completed a doctoral degree in educational leadership at California State University\, Long Beach. Through her community work\, Sara has received awards from numerous organizations\, including the NAACP-Long Beach\, the state Assembly and the Los Angeles County Supervisorial District. \n  \n[themify_button style=”xlarge green” link=”https://zoom.us/j/766434041?pwd=NEdQT3J2cUtTWFYvZmVCOEduenV0Zz09″ target=”<strong>_blank</strong>”]JOIN THE ZOOM MEETING[/themify_button] \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n How is Climate Change Affecting Our Community? How fast is it happening? What can WE do to fight it?\n \nClimate change is the greatest threat to our existence. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our very first Canyon Dems Social Hour! \nWe know a bunch of our meeting attendees miss seeing friendly Democratic faces\, so we’ll be hosting a Social Hour each week to give you a chance to hang out and chat with your Democratic neighbors.  You can join by clicking on the link below or calling in.  If you’ve never used Zoom before\, it will prompt you to install a small web app to launch their software. \nThis will be our very first try at a social hour and if all goes well\, keep your eyes peeled for announcements about upcoming social hours to come.  There will be a limit of 100 people for our first social hour at any one time.  Feel free to drop in and say hi or stay for the whole thing.  This social hour won’t be recorded–it’s just for fun! But please don’t share anything on your screen that wouldn’t want someone in the public to see. \nNOTE: This will be a free and open format hang out with very light moderation. Please keep it civil and courteous and we reserve the right to remove folks that don’t. \nSee you soon! \nZOOM MEETING INFO\nTime: Apr 21\, 2020 6:00 PM Pacific Time \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/98010581439?pwd=bS8wcFFEbHB5Mjh5dEMvWmNESG0vZz09 \nMeeting ID: 980 1058 1439\nPassword: 032035 \nOne tap mobile:\n+16699006833\,\,98010581439#\,\,#\,032035# US (San Jose)\n+14086380968\,\,98010581439#\,\,#\,032035# US (San Jose) \nCall:\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\nMeeting ID: 980 1058 1439\nPassword: 032035 \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n How is Climate Change Affecting Our Community? How fast is it happening? What can WE do to fight it?\n \nClimate change is the greatest threat to our existence. Schneiderman Endowed Chair and Professor of Biology at University of California Irvine. For thirty years\, she has led an internationally recognized research program and educated the next generation of scientists and students who are fighting for our climate. In acknowledgement of her outstanding research and publication record on global climate change\, she has been elected a Fellow of the Ecological Society of America\, the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. \nIn 2017\, Kathleen began to work within our local area to enact real-world solutions to climate change. She co-founded OC Clean Power\, a grassroots organization of over 30 non-profits\, businesses\, school organizations\, and faith groups. With her leadership\, they successfully lobbied Irvine\, Fullerton\, Huntington Beach\, and Buena Park to found OC Power Authority\, one of the largest renewable energy programs in California. \nKathleen is running for a seat on the Irvine City Council. She and her husband\, Jim\, are proud parents to twins who love the outdoors\, science\, and art. They remind her of what’s at stake for a better future. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Ayn Craciun is the Orange County Policy Manager with Climate Action Campaign\, a leading nonprofit climate policy watchdog in the region. Before embarking on her path as an environmental advocate\, Ayn had a successful career in corporate communications and PR. In 2016\, Ayn helped advocate for the City of Irvine’s historic organic landscaping policy. In 2018\, Ayn turned her focus to the climate crisis and helped build a coalition of support to create the Irvine-led Orange County Power Authority\, which launched in December 2020. In Feb. 2021\, she joined Climate Action Campaign\, helping draft and build support for the City of Irvine’s ACHIEVES climate resolution\, which made Irvine the first city in Southern California and the third in the state to commit to 2030 zero carbon goals in line with the most recent climate science.
