SUMMARY:Learn about Community Choice Energy
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW\nJoin our Political Action Committee chair\, Andrea Alexander\, and learn all about Community Choice Energy at this free\, virtual Zoom event. This hot-topic issue has been discussed by most of our local city councils.  This easy and informative discussion will cover all of your questions about Community Choice Energy and why so many other local areas are adopting it. Get informed on this critical\, local issue! \n  \nBackground:\nCommunity Choice Energy (aka Community Choice Aggregation (CCA)) brings competition and consumer choice to the electricity sector with a focus on local\, renewable energy. As not-for-profit agencies\, CCEs are not beholden to multi-million dollar CEO salaries or shareholder returns\, but rather to stable\, competitive pricing for consumers and increasingly\nresilient\, clean\, and local energy systems. \nThe OC Power Authority (OCPA) is OC’s first CCE program. Formed in December 2020\, OCPA will begin serving member cities Irvine\, Fullerton\, Huntington Beach\, and Buena Park in 2022. Other cities can join the OCPA after their city councils vote to do so and may begin service as early as 2023. \nThe Lake Forest City Council voted in December 2020 to join OCPA\, but then voted to leave the program in February 2021. \n  \nTopics that will be covered:\n\nConsumer Choice\nSavings & Economic Impact\nClean Energy\nLocal Investment & Jobs\nProtection from Wildfire\nLocal Control\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n How is Climate Change Affecting Our Community? How fast is it happening? What can WE do to fight it?\n \nClimate change is the greatest threat to our existence. SUMMARY:Census 2020 Virtual Meeting with Sara Pol-Lim
DESCRIPTION:CENSUS 2020:  Time to get your questions answered!!\nThe 2020 Census determines how billions of federal dollars are distributed in California. An undercount could impact funding for our schools\, health services\, childcare\, emergency services and many other programs. \nThe Census also determines the number of California’s Congressional members and Electoral College votes. A complete count means more people in power who truly represent and advocate for our communities. \n  \nLink no longer available. \n(Meeting maximum: 300 people) \n  \nPeople want to know: \nWhat is California doing to work towards a complete and accurate count in the 2020 Census? \nWhat is the California Census Office doing to encourage participation? \nHow is private information protected? \nWho must respond to the Census? \nWhat questions do you have?  Join us on April 16 to get the answers! \n  \nAbout the presenter: \nSara Pol-Lim is a Regional Program Manager for the California Complete Count – Census 2020. She joined the state Census Office in October 2018. Sara brought knowledge of historically undercounted populations\, such as immigrant and refugee communities\, to the State’s Census outreach campaign. A refugee herself\, she understands the fear some California residents have of government. Sara was executive director of the United Cambodian Community (UCC) of Long Beach from 2007 to 2015. She broke the cultural barrier to be the first Cambodian Woman to lead the UCC back to sustainability. In 2018\, Sara completed a doctoral degree in educational leadership at California State University\, Long Beach. Through her community work\, Sara has received awards from numerous organizations\, including the NAACP-Long Beach\, the state Assembly and the Los Angeles County Supervisorial District. \n  \n[themify_button style=”xlarge green” link=”https://zoom.us/j/766434041?pwd=NEdQT3J2cUtTWFYvZmVCOEduenV0Zz09″ target=”<strong>_blank</strong>”]JOIN THE ZOOM MEETING[/themify_button] \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n How is Climate Change Affecting Our Community? How fast is it happening? What can WE do to fight it?\n \nClimate change is the greatest threat to our existence.
