SUMMARY:Primary Election Day
DESCRIPTION:Election Day Info\nThis will be the first time Orange County will use Voting Centers.  Every registered voter will be mailed a ballot.  Voters can then choose to mail it back (at no cost)\, drop it off at ANY Voting Center\, or drop in to a Voting Center to cast a ballot on-site. \n[themify_button style=”large red” link=”https://ocvote.com/fileadmin/vc/vclist.html” target=”<strong>_blank</strong>”]Find your closest Vote Center or Drop Box![/themify_button] \nYou still need to register to vote\, but you can also drop into any Voting Center location to register and vote the same day!  For more information on voting centers\, visit the Orange County Registrar’s website. \nNeed to check the status of your registration? \n\nOFFICIALLY-ENDORSED DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES\n\n\nCongressional Representative\nDistrict 45 – Katie Porter*\nDistrict 49 – Mike Levin*\nState Senate\nDistrict 37 (No endorsement) – Dave Min (Democrat)\, Katrina Foley (Democrat)\nState Assembly\nDistrict 73 – Scott Rhinehart\nDistrict 68 – Melissa Fox\nCounty Offices\nOrange County Board of Education\, Trustee Area 3 – Andy Thorburn\nOrange County Board of Supervisors\, District 3 – Ashleigh Aitken\n* Indicates incumbent candidate \n2020 Proposition 13 – YES\nIt is different from the 1978 Jarvis Proposition 13\, which crippled California’s ability to fund vital needs. 2020 Proposition 13 provides needed funds for school facilities. 2020 Proposition 13 is endorsed by the California Democratic Party. It “authorizes Bonds for Facility Repair\, Construction\, and Modernization at Public Preschools\, K-12 Schools\, Community Colleges\, and Universities. Legislative Statute.” And raises the ceilings for school and community college districts’ bonds. Authorizes $15 billion in state general obligation bonds to improve public education facilities\, including earthquake/fire safety and removal of lead from water. Limits administrative costs to 5 percent. \nMeasure A – NO\n“An Ordinance … Amending the [Orange] County Charter to Require a 2/3 Vote of the Board of Supervisors to Propose Taxes …” Currently a simple majority is required to present for election the imposition\, extension\, or increase of a tax. This measure raises the requirement to a vote by four of the five Supervisors\, making it extremely difficult to raise revenues. It is an attempt by current Republican supervisors to tie the hands of Democrats if they should win the majority of seats on the Board of Supervisors. \nCapistrano Unified School District\nSchool Facilities Improvement Bond – YES on Measure I\n“Capistrano Unified School District School Facilities Improvement Bond Measure.” Generates $300 million in bond funds. Tax on property not to exceed $34 per $100\,000 assessed value. Bond funds may be used only to build or improve school facilities; cannot be used for salaries or other operating expenses; requires annual performance and financial audits; establishes an independent citizen’s oversight committee. \nSaddleback Valley Unified School District\nLocal School Facilities Improvement Bond – YES on Measure M\n“Saddleback Valley Unified School District School Facilities Safe and Modern Classroom Bond Measure.” It is similar to Measure I above\, except for a different amount: $495 million. \n\n  \nLIVE IN ORANGE COUNTY\, BUT NOT IN OUR AREA?\nCheck out the Democratic Party of Orange County’s Endorsement Guide to find out all of our endorsed candidates across Orange County!\n \n  \n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n Courageous Citizenship\nJeremy Cohen\, PhD \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Dr. Mike Moodian & Dr. Fred Smoller\nDr. Mike Moodian has served as a faculty member at Chapman University since 2007 and teached for the leadership studies program.  \nDr. Fred Smoller is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Chapman University where he has been a member of the faculty since 1983. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Michael Sall\nMichael is the DPOC Director of Democratic Clubs and an attorney at Sall Spencer Callas & Krueger in Laguna Beach\, California\, with a practice in legal ethics and business litigation.
