DESCRIPTION:A Zoom Webinar Hosted by the Canyon Democrats \nThursday\, August 6\, at 7:00 p.m. \nJoin author and explorer Debbie Miller as she takes us to glacier-carved fjords and lush forests in Prince William Sound\, sharing images and stories from her book\, “A Wild Promise: Prince William Sound\,” while guiding us through its history. \nNestled between the mountains of the Chugach National Forest in south-central Alaska\, Prince William Sound has the highest concentration of tidewater glaciers in America\, with a coastal wilderness like no other. The Sound is a magnificent and dramatic environment\, inhabited by bears\, salmon\, sea otters\, humpback whales\, puffins and bald eagles. Debbie Miller spent five years paddling and hiking along numerous fjords\, collaborating with photographer Hugh Rose to create her book “A Wild Promise: Prince William Sound” (Braided River\, 2019). In addition to “A Wild Promise\,” she is the author of “Midnight Wilderness: Journeys in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge\,” and “On Arctic Ground: Tracking Time Through Alaska’s National Petroleum Preserve\,” as well as numerous award-winning children’s nature books about Alaska. Debbie is a co-founder of the Alaska Wilderness League\, an organization that galvanizes support to secure vital policies that protect and defend America’s last great wild public lands and waters. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n Courageous Citizenship\nJeremy Cohen\, PhD \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Dr. Mike Moodian & Dr. Fred Smoller\nDr. Mike Moodian has served as a faculty member at Chapman University since 2007 and teached for the leadership studies program. \nDr. Fred Smoller is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Chapman University where he has been a member of the faculty since 1983. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Michael Sall\nMichael is the DPOC Director of Democratic Clubs and an attorney at Sall Spencer Callas & Krueger in Laguna Beach\, California\, with a practice in legal ethics and business litigation. He is running against incumbent John Moorlach in the November general election. \nCA State Senate District 37 covers Anaheim\, Costa Mesa\, Huntington Beach\, Irvine\, Laguna Beach\, Laguna Woods\, Lake Forest\, Newport Beach\, Orange\, Tustin and Villa Park. \nDave is a nationally recognized expert on economic policy who has fought for economic opportunity for working Americans for nearly two decades. A first-generation Korean-American\, he worked as an enforcement attorney at the Securities and Exchange Commission\, as an economic and financial policy advisor to Senator Chuck Schumer\, and as an economic policy director at the Center for American Progress. Dave and his wife\, Jane\, both teach at the UC Irvine School of Law while raising their three children. \n \n \nMelissa Fox is a candidate for the California State Assembly District 68. She is running against Republican Steven Choi in the November general election. \nCA State Assembly District 68 covers Lake Forest\, North Tustin\, Tustin and Villa Park\, and portions of Anaheim\, Irvine and Orange. \nMelissa is a member of the Bars of the State of California and the United States Tax Court. She is a graduate of Brandeis University and Tulane University School of Law. She is the founder of the Fox Law Firm in Irvine. Melissa has practiced law in Orange County for more than 20 years. She lives with her husband\, Dr. Michael Fox\, and their son\, Max\, in Irvine. \n \n \n \nScott Rhinehart is a candidate for the California State Assembly District 73. He is running against Republican Laurie Davies in the November general election. \nCA State Assembly District 73 covers Aliso Viejo\, Coto de Caza\, Dana Point\, Ladera Ranch\, Laguna Hills\, Laguna Niguel\, Las Flores\, Mission Viejo\, RSM\, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano. \nScott is a community leader\, businessman\, husband\, father and grandfather.
