DESCRIPTION:EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE\nORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS\nWho Are They\, What They Do\, and Why You Should Care\nPresentation by Karen Hernandez and Lulu Hammad\n  \nLearn all about the O.C. Board of Supervisors (BOS)\, the governmental body that oversees the operations and management of the County.  Their actions impact the lives of all Orange County residents. Get the answers to such questions as:  What authorities do the BOS have? Are the budget priorities of the BOS the same as yours? Does the BOS adhere to the principles of good governance? We highly encourage everyone attending to be vaccinated to COVID-19.  For information about getting vaccinated\, please visit https://myturn.ca.gov/.   Attendees will also need to sign a waiver upon arrival at the Murray Center. Hernández\, Pronouns: She/ Her/ Ella\nKaren is an immigrant from Guadalajara\, Mexico with roots in Orange County since the age of 3. She began her passion for activism after participating in the fight against Props 187 and 209 while a student at UCLA. She remains an advocate for human rights and social justice.  Her advocacy work centers on the idea that we need transformative justice with investment in people and community instead of punishment and social control. Karen is currently the Chairperson and Co-founder of People’s Budget OC Coalition and a member/volunteer with the Stop the Musick Coalition\, Housing is a Human Right OC\, NAACP-OC Chapter\, OC Emergency Response Coalition\, OC Rapid Response Network\, and League of Women Voters. \n  \n  \nLulu Hammad\, Esq.\, Pronouns: She/Her\nLulu is a human rights advocate who focuses on the intersectionality of social justice issues\, centering the voices of her Arab and Muslim communities as well as those of Black\, Indigenous and people of color. Before migrating to the US\, she served as a legal consultant for UNICEF in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Defense for Children International — Palestine. Currently\, Lulu is very active as the cofounder of Yalla Indivisible\, OC Emergency Response Coalition (OCERC)\, People’s Budget OC (PBOC)\, and a member of Housing Is A Human Right OC (HHROC). \n\n\n                    \n                        \n                        \n                    \n\n        \n        Courageous Citizenship\nJeremy Cohen\, PhD    \n\n\n\n    \n        \n                        \n        \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                    \n\n        \n                \n        \n    \n    \n        \n        \n                    \n                    \n\n        \n        Dr. Mike Moodian & Dr. Fred Smoller\nDr. Mike Moodian has served as a faculty member at Chapman University since 2007 and teached for the leadership studies program.  \nDr. Fred Smoller is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Chapman University where he has been a member of the faculty since 1983.     \n\n        \n                        \n        \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                    \n\n        \n                \n        \n    \n    \n        \n        \n                    \n                    \n\n        \n        Michael Sall\nMichael is the DPOC Director of Democratic Clubs and an attorney at Sall Spencer Callas & Krueger in Laguna Beach\, California\, with a practice in legal ethics and business litigation. He is also a member of the Aliso Niguel Democratic Club and their former Chair.        \n\n        \n                        \n        \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                    \n\n        \n                \n        \n    \n    \n        \n\n\n        \n        NOVEMBER COMMUNITY OUTREACH\nThis month our community partner is Toys for Tots. \nPlease bring one or more NEW and UNWRAPPED gifts or Gift Cards from Walmart or Target ($25) to our meeting. \nRequested items are gifts for “forgotten ages”: \n – Toddlers from 6 months – 3 years \n – Teenagers – ear pods\, games\, sports equipment\, skateboards\, craft or jewelry kits \nOur Community Outreach Liaison\, Ann Owens\, is also collecting new bicycles.
