General Meeting: Decoding the Attacks on Education
November 14, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Decoding the Attacks on Education
Dr. Nancy Watkins
In highly politicized school districts and school boards, educators, policymakers, and the community are confronted with “educational doubletalk” that shapes perception, policies, practices, and outcomes in education. This presentation decodes the meaning behind words and phrases like “Back to Basics,” “Classical Education,” “Parental Rights,” and “School Choice” by highlighting real-world examples of their use (and misuse) in education politics today. This presentation empowers participants to identify and dissect instances of doubletalk to advocate for just, equitable, and inclusive education for all students.
