Skipping Through Chaos: Journalism in the Trump Era
Scott Martelle, a Los Angeles Times editorial writer, will discuss being an “enemy of the people” and practicing journalism in an era in which truth can seem malleable, and the public has retreated into political tribes. He plans to take a lot of questions, so come prepared!
About the Presenter: Scott Martelle, a veteran journalist and author of six history books, joined the Los Angeles Times editorial board in 2014 after more than 30 years as a news reporter, including covering parts of three presidential campaigns. His main areas of focus for the Times are immigration, gun policy, climate change and the death penalty, so his inbox tends to overheat. Martelle, a native of Maine who grew up in Western New York, lives in Irvine.
With Mother’s Day on our minds, we are joining forces with I Support the Girls for our May meeting. I Support the Girls collects and distributes essential items, including bras, underwear, and menstrual hygiene products, allowing women experiencing homelessness, impoverishment, or distress to stand tall with dignity.
The items we will be collecting are:
Pads
Tampons
Reusable cups
New or gently used bras of all kinds (sports bras, nursing bras, etc)
