Is this the beginning of the end of public education?
Panel Discussion featuring:
Therese Sorey, Sherine Smith & Billie Joe Wright
In our first section, we will be focusing on the various attacks on public education to let everyone know this is a national effort that is reaching into local districts. From the national well-funded effort to eliminate public education (standardized testing, vouchers, “failing” schools, etc.) to the state and county level, to our local districts (including SVUSD and CapoUSD).
In the second section, we will be pointing out ways in which the extreme rightwing (white supremacists, evangelical churches, etc), despite their claims that they are advocating for “parents’ rights,” are in fact abusing students’ and teachers’ and parents’ rights.
We will also have suggestions for ways that Canyon Dems can work to protect public education

Billie Joe Wright
- Current President of the Hacienda La Puente Teachers Association
- High school teacher – AP government, Civics, Economics, U.S. History and World History
- Co-Chair Planned Parenthood SBOCC LGBTQ Council
SEPTEMBER COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Join us in supporting the Laguna Beach Friendship Shelter–the only shelter for the homeless in our area. We will be collecting the following items at our September meeting:
Pillows
Blankets
Ground coffee
Canned fruits and veggies
Pasta
Rice
Please bring donations to our September meeting. We will have someone in front of The Murray Center to collect your donations.
