Unity Rally, Laguna Beach, August 19th
A group called “America First” plans to have a rally against illegal immigration on Sunday in Laguna Beach. We, along with several other groups, strongly discourage a counter-protest because of safety issues. Instead, please consider the following options:
ACTION 1: Unity Rally on Saturday, August 19 at 10am-12pm at Main Beach in Laguna Beach
Message is unity and love for those neighbors, family, and friends who would be the target of racism and bigotry AND that hate is NOT WELCOME in our communities. This last point is the main emphasis.
ACTION 2: PLEDGE to Protest Sunday, August 20
We suggest the determinant for the value of the donation is the number of people in attendance at the hate rally.
ACTION 3: Encourage members to write letters to the editors in local papers
Encourage letters that reinforce our community’s rejection of hate and reassurance that diverse peoples shall remain safe in our community.
ACTION 4: Engage local business is Laguna Beach to inform them of the hate rally and ask them to post a sign about supporting unity.
Canyon Democrats is not organizing the rally. We are supporting it as it comes together from various grassroots groups here in Orange County. We encourage all of our members to BE SAFE and obey law enforcement.
