Canyon Dems Begin Strong in 2018

The Canyon Democrats are working to elect democratic representatives in South Orange County — focusing on Districts 45 and 49. We are off to a great start in 2018, with multiple events already completed.

2018 began with our Candidate Forum for District 45 on Tuesday, January 16th at the Norman P. Murray center in Mission Viejo. With more than 400 community members in attendance, the event was a huge success.

Attendees heard from four of the candidates running to unseat Mimi Walters in CA-45: Brian Forde, Kia Hamadanchy, David Min and Katie Porter. All four of the candidates had a strong showing — all were well-informed about the issues, respectful, and hungry to turn the 45 congressional seat blue in 2018. The audience was truly impressed and we were honored to have them all address our group. The straw poll results at the end of the evening had David Min coming out on top, followed by Katie Porter, Kia Hamadanchy and Brian Forde, in that order.

Next, we turned our attention to the Women’s March on January 20th. From the sign-making party held the week prior, to organizing two buses to travel to the march, the Canyon Dems had a strong showing at the Orange County march.

Then, we turned all that energy from the Women’s March into action with a Community Outreach training on January 23rd. At this free event, we trained new volunteers in neighborhood outreach and voter registration, both critical to turning South Orange County blue in 2018.

So much has happened in 2018, but there’s more! Still to come is our Flip The House Pancake Breakfast on Saturday February 3rd from 9-10:30 at the Norman P. Murray Center in Mission Viejo. We will be serving pancakes and sausage, while providing a brief explanation on how to register voters without stressing out. Come learn how you can help flip the house in 2018, and fill your stomach at the same time. Click here to register for this FREE and informative event.

We are also busy planning for the 49th Congressional District Debate, held in partnership with the Democratic Women of South Orange County, on February 20, 2018 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm at San Juan Hills High School. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets for this event.

With many more events planned this year, we are just getting started. Come help us spread the blue wave throughout Orange County in 2018! You can find out more about joining Canyon Democrats on our membership page.
